Best Moment's Of Lyng #4: Noyce Makes It Four In A Row.

For today's Best Moment Of Lyng I'm kicking it proper old school, back to a time where men were men and so were the women. In 1979 one guy and one guy only was getting shit done in the British Championship and that was Graham 'Rolls' Noyce. As the series rolled into Lyng for round six, Noyce who just a couple of weekends earlier had clinched the 500 world title against the likes of Heikki Mikkola, Brad Lackey, Andre Malherbe and Roger fuckin' Decoster (pretty impressive huh?), had not lost a moto thus far in the '79 British series and things weren't about to change. The guy went out and destroyed the competition in both races in the Norfolk sand to wrap up his fourth consecutive British title, like a boss. What Bike did he do it on? That's right Bitches, a Honda. Noyce knew, even back then, he knew!

The local crowd were treated to one of their boy's, Geoff Mayes, putting in a true Solidude ride to bring home 2nd overall on the D.A. Slaughter sponsored Maico. Mayes took second in both motos behind Noyce, fending off Pete Matthia, Rob Hooper and Roger Harvey. Mayes would go on to win the British title the following year paving the way for the  East Anglian bros of recent years like Carl Nunn, Jake Nicholls and Elliot Banks-Browne. Cheers Geoff.   Neil Hudson, who hadn't yet claimed his world 250 championship of 2 years later (1981), stuggled with bike troubles through out the day and only took home 8 points and mathematically handed Noyce the championship. You can bet Noyce was in the beer tent that night. Probably the night before the race as well knowing 'Rolls' reputation. Dude was always slamming shotties and hotties like a player. Bam!
