Best Of Lyng #1 - The 1993 125 GP Bitch!

The Esso Lubricare 125cc World Motocross GP came to Cadders Hill in 1993 (nineteen years ago this very week) and why the fuck not! Lyng is definitely a world class track, just ask Jake Nicholls, it's his favourite. I was looking through the programme and over 10 previous and future world champions rode at this event plus a host of other fast bastards. My memory of it is watching the guys haul ass round the circuit and also of a 19 year old Pichon, in a flo pink helmet(nice), pulling probably what was the first ever scrub of the big hill in practice on the Saturday and taking out all the track markings with his rear wheel coming down the final drop off just because he could. Although he was 3rd in points going into the Lyng round he struggled in the sand and surprise, surprise the Dutch riders didn't as they swept the moto wins and the overall podium.

Demaria killing it!

This was back in the days when the races were not as predictable as Ryan Villopoto racing his 450 in a 65 class, there wasn't just two or three guys racking the podium positions every single race while the rest of the field looked on like dogs round a dinner table just waiting for any scraps that might pass their way. Pedro Tragter was the guy taking home the cheddar on this day with a 5-1-2 scorecard on his Chesterfield Suzuki (no way as good looking of Bob Moore's Chesterfield Yamaha of the following year. See Here) Remy Van Rees and 1986 world champ, Dave Strij-like-a-bos (no relation) rounded out the podium. The British crew was rolling deep that day with Kelly Swanson, Nathan Shelton, Rikki Priest, Tony Marshall, Justin Morris, Austin Kemp, Danny Tollett, Jon Barfoot, Neil Carnell all representing. Swanson was the boss of the Brits taking home 11th overall and probably the rest of the guy's girlfriends as he put it up in the top ten in the second race. Recognise!

Demaria killing it....again!

Right, you should all now be pumped up harder than a Dutch riders arms on hard pack. I will be lurking in the pits tomorrow representing Sandbox and I expect you to be doing much the same. Let's get this fuckin' show on the road! See you there bitches.
